saving? Be Honest! Me and my friends
where having a conversation about how difficult it is when it comes to saving money as a student so that is
why I have decided to put together 10 ways to save!
I was
recently asked how I am able to purchase necessities, able to drive a car and
still able to save bit by bit while being a student. Honestly, it’s difficult saving money especially in
post-secondary education. In my eyes, you have a have a list of goals, plan or
a monthly budget planner that will
make it easier for you to stick too.
Well,
here are my 5 ways of saving money
that are achievable, realistic and easy!
Here we
are:
1. Splitting the cost of textbooks – One thing I learnt is text books are not needed as
much as you think! Maybe that is a bad thing for me to say, but that’s how it
felt for my experience in school. I think for one class we never used to textbook
once. When you feel it’s a must, try and see if it is possible for you and a
friend to go halves on a textbook, look on Kijiji or your school’s marketplace.
2. Don’t buy on Impulse – Honestly,
I am so guilty of this! It took me a while to finally get out of it, as soon as
I would see something that grabbed my attention I would put it on the credit
card and away I go. Now I’m much more smarter with my money, I usually think if
it’s something I really need right now and think about all the other things I
have to pay for. I usually walk away for 5 minutes and do something else. If I
forget about it, then it’s most likely something I really don’t need.
3.
Don’t live on Campus unless you really need too – For me, I don’t live on my school’s residence. I commute
to school every day. Off Campus living
is just as good, I can assure you. I’ll admit it is a little time consuming and
long but in the end it benefits you as your able to not to be in debt after you
finish school. (Unless you’re lucky enough to have your parents pay for it).
4.
Use Your Library – I
do this now actually, I am not sure if many of you know but libraries contain
CD’s, DVD’s, and Games for consoles. These are all free of charge! This is one
of the perfect ways to saving money,
especially if you are a first year student. (Hopefully you guys caught onto
that). Also try volunteering at the
library, this may eventually enable you to turn it into a part-time job and if
it fits into school will be perfect!
5.
Play Hide and Seek with the Credit Cards – Honestly, Credit cards can be a positive thing and
a negative all at the same time. This can hurt your credit, which can stop you
from enabling to purchase a house or a car later on in life. I personally feel
before getting a credit card check out YouTube with advice and bloggers
thoughts as it makes it easier to relate too.
