Are Business Events Important?

When you have graduated school, you hear a lot of people say “it’s not what you know, it’s who you know”.

And it is true. Most people will tell you that they got their current [or past] job/career through a network that they had. Friends, friends of friends, friends of family. They’ve all helped someone somewhere get a job.

Business events are happening face to face, and online. Face to face in the form of conferences, trade shows, and even job interviews. Online with sites like LinkedIn, online trade shows, and mailing lists. So, are business events important? Yes. They are important because it is networking, and every connection counts. That’s why sites like LinkedIn are gaining popularity in the business world, as they lead and show the connections that might not have been made otherwise. Your friend who works here, also knows this friend at the workplace that you are interested in – and they’re hiring.

The popularity of online interaction is and will continue to grow. Do you find that you’re a little old school and prefer the face to face interaction, or will you turn away from it and strictly go online?
